Welcome to my Rotary Blog.
I've decided as President –Elect (Thank you very much, Simi Sunrise for
having faith in me!) to start a blog and begin to journal my thoughts on a blog
to share with the club. Blogs are an
interesting creature, they typically will morph into a very user friendly page
where bloggers can not only read the content that has been posted, but add comments and thoughts as well. Perhaps
now is the time to give you a slight warning, you have nominated an educator,
although I was a dirt farmer, always outstanding in my field (that’s a little
humor for Marshall), I even had all my agriculture students do a lot of
writing, reading and pushing the educational envelope with new ideas and technologies.
Hopefully this blog will follow me not only through the rest
of this year, but as your President-elect next year and your president the
following year. We’ll see if it’s still
alive (or that matter if I've survived the year) and continue on as the Past
President’s blog.
This morning after consuming some of the best tasting ribs I
have ever had for breakfast (and for dinner as well), it finally hit me that
there was no turning back when Steve Smith asked for the vote…although I was campaigning
heavily for the “no” vote, it seem to be close to unanimously ( George Kerr???)
and the standing ovation took me by surprise…thank you! Poor Savi had to almost sell her soul to have
me say yes (get a glass of wine in her and she might actually tell you what sold/closed
the deal), and the support that all the past presidents and the club has been
offering I’m sure that it will be fun ride…just going have to strap down my
seat belts and enjoy the ride!
Kudos to Pat for putting together an awesome board for his
upcoming year, my table mates were all in awe as he named each person that
agreed to be part, they all seemed to be a perfect match…from newer members to well-seasoned
members and Jim Lowry as Cajun chair…wow!

ReplyDeleteSteve you're going to be a great club president. You've got a year to put your team together, get you plans in place, plan your schedule around PETS, the International convention, Assemblies, and tens of thousands of other minor commitments that the nomination team couldn't tell you until now. You're basically screwed for the next 30 months. So get lots of sleep, lots of exercise and don't give up those moon walks, they're going to keep you sane. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to a fun year with you! The standing ovation was definatley in order! We did authorize Savi to use whatever bribes needed to get you to say YES! And we are so glad you did! The best thing ever in Rotary is attending the International Convention! Enjoy every minute of it, it is life changing!
ReplyDeleteSteve - As a long-time proponent of the use of social (and blogging, because it allows the back-and-forth of commenting, is definitely social) tools for communication and collaboration, I'm pleased to see you grabbing the bull by the horns or, as it's referred to in the business world, "being proactive". This is a great way to stay in touch and to give everyone who wishes to the opportunity to reflect on your direction and participate in the conversation or just go along for the ride. I wish you the best and, if there's anything I can do to assist - especially with respect to tools and processes for communicating with the membership and our community, please don't hesitate to call on me.
